Once a fun hobby, drones have evolved tremendously over the years into versatile aerial devices for picture taking and package deliveries, and they’ve even created an entirely new competitive sport. Now, security company Sunflower Labs has sparked the latest advancement in the category with the world’s first residential security drone, the Sunflower Home Awareness System.
Unveiled at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the Sunflower Home Awareness System combines always-on motion and vibration sensors with AI processing offering comfort to homeowners and drastically reducing false alarms. The system is comprised of three main parts, all appropriately named: Sunflowers, Bee, and Hive.
- The Sunflowers: Discreet motion and vibration sensors that monitor activity on the property. They may look like you average garden light, but they can detect and differentiate between people, animals, and cars and display this activity on a map in real-time.
- The Bee: As you may have guessed, the Bee is a fully autonomous drone that patrols your home from up above. With advanced features like automatic deployment, fully autonomous flight, ultrasonic collision-avoidance sensors, high-precision differential GPS, and live streaming video, the Bee provides a safe and comprehensive overview of your home.
- The Hive: A weatherproof housing and charging station for the Bee also acts as the brains of the operation with AI data processing and analysis embedded into the system.
If the system suspects any potentially dangerous activity, it deploys an alert to a connected mobile device. The owner can then launch an autonomous drone flight and view real-time aerial footage of their property from anywhere.
“Advancements in smart home security have been stationary or dependent on video cameras until now,” said Alex Pachikov, co-founder and CEO of Sunflower Labs. “Thanks to the integration of AI and machine learning, homeowners can now have a truly smart security system that, over time, learns and reacts to its surroundings. Sunflower Labs is a leader in the next evolution in smart security.”
As you can imagine, autonomous drone security doesn’t come cheap. The starting price for the Sunflower Home Awareness System is a whopping $9,950. Final pricing is based on the size and layout of your property.
