Growth in Microphones
The microphone industry is dominated by Greater China suppliers, which produced more than 70 percent of global output in 2005. The supplier base is a good mix of established volume producers as well as smaller but more nimble makers. Many of them are also experienced manufacturers, having been involved in the production of microphones for over a decade.
Based on a recent Global Sources survey of 29 microphone makers in Greater China, sales of microphones is expected to grow by approximately 12 percent between 2006 and 2007, in large part driven by the shift to manufacturing higher-margin wireless models.
There are about 400 microphone manufacturers in mainland China. Collectively, they produced about 135 million microphone units in 2005. In 2006, their output is expected to increase by about 15 percent over 2005.
