Survey: Half of Phones Will Play Music in Five Years
The popularity of the iPhone is likely to lead to expanded popularity of mobile phones that also play music- the point that by 2013, 50 percent of phones will have music capability.
According to the study by MultiMedia Intelligence, as reported by CNET, 500 million music phones were shipped last year, as opposed to around 300 million non-phone music players. MMI put the value of the mobile music market at $6 billion by year’s end.
This was attributed mostly to music features moving from high-end to standard phones, as well an explosion in the popularity of the phones in emerging world markets, especially China, India and the Middle East.
