Survey: LCD Prices Up in July, But LIkely to Drop Again
The average price for LCD TVs jumped throughout July and August, but will likely drop again this month, according to a survey from the research firm iSuppli, conducted through its PriceTrak service.
The ASP (average selling price) of LCDs was $1,931 for August, a drop of just $2 from July, but an increase from just under $1,800 in June. The biggest reasons for the decline, iSuppli said, were the introduction of some new, expensive LCD models, and stabilization of prices of some models that had been dropping in the months before. iSuppli, however, predicted that prices will drop again as the fourth quarter approaches, due to competition in the 40/42-inch category.
