Mobile phone shipments in the U.S. jumped five percent in the second quarter over the same period the year before, and despite its struggles Motorola maintains the number one spot in market share for the category. That’s according to numbers released this week by the research firm Strategy Analytics.
The firm put second quarter mobile phone sales at 41.9 million units, up from last year’s figure of 39.8 million. Motorola led in market share with 25.8 percent, with LG grabbing the #2 spot for the first time in two years, overtaking Samsung. Research in Motion, maker of the BlackBerry brand, also broke 10 percent in market share for the first time.
