Accessories for Every Season
The beauty of the accessories market is that there is something for everyone. Customers range from the bargain hunters to the big spenders. Some products fall in the bucket of necessity, such as A/V cabling and wireless phone chargers, and some are optional, such as carrying cases and faceplates. This is good news for accessories manufacturers and retailers as we head into the holiday season. For every MP3 player, digital camera and HDTV sold this holiday season, there will also be power cables, memory cards and mounting systems.
Once again, MP3 players lead the list of top holiday gifts, according to CEA’s 13th Annual Holiday Survey. Headphones, docks, powered speakers, carrying cases and other iPod enhancements are not just hot holiday gifts—they’re also contributing to an expected 30 percent growth in 2006 to the accessories market. Also in the mix as high growth areas are remote controls, A/V cables and the wide variety of cell phone accessories. CEA has projected that accessories sales should reach more than $11 billion in 2006. When blank media is included, that number grows to nearly $19 billion.
