Target Plans New, Greener Prototypes
Target Corp. has announced plans to introduce a pair of new prototype stores, which will be both bigger than a standard Target, and green-certified. The Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal reported that the two stores, one using the name “P2009” and the other “S2009” will both open in the Minneapolis area in October.
The Journal also said that the new prototypes will have more space for electronics, as well as food, than a standard Target. These Targets will carry more flat-screen TVs, GPS units and digital picture frames, among other electronics products, than Target locations typically have.
The new stores will be certified under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Portfolio program, and greener features will include energy-efficient heating, air conditioning and bathroom systems, as well as low-flow light fixtures. The stores will also recycle 75 percent of their construction waste.
