Target Shoppers Can Now Save $1 By Consolidating Packages
With Earth Day coming up in a few weeks, it is nice to see companies making an effort to reduce the amount of waste they produce on a daily basis. We’ve seen Amazon offer ways to cut down on the number of individual packages a customer receives, and now Target has followed up with a consolidated package initiative of their own.
At checkout, Target.com shoppers can select a box that says “save $1 with order consolidation,” and the discount will apply to their merchandise subtotal. Target will then ship the order in fewer packages where possible thus avoiding a sea of boxes showing up throughout the week. Customers will also be able to compare when the items will ship depending on which option they choose.
Since items may come from different stores or warehouses though, it is not always guaranteed that multi-item orders will come as one big batch. And for those orders that do come from the same place, they $1 discount will not be displayed as an option at checkout.
“Guest response has shown that many guests prefer a reduced number of deliveries, and that speed is not the only factor in a great online shopping experience,” a Target spokeswoman says.
The company is still testing out the service but it seems like the initiative would be a win for everyone. Target would save money, shoppers would save money, and packaging waste would see a major decrease. It’s always worth emphasizing that the service is optional so if you need your items ASAP, you can still receive shipments the same way you always have from Target.
