Target To Open 26 Stores, Wal-Mart Beats Forecast
Target announced it is opening 26 new stores this Sunday, bringing its total up to 1,613 stores in 47 states.
New locations include Bullhead City, Ariz.; Omaha, Neb.; Queen Creek, Ariz.; Brooklyn, N.Y.; Ventura, Calif.; Tulsa, Okla.; West Covina, Calif.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Davenport, Fla.; Cleveland, Tenn.; Estero, Fla.; Smyrna, Tenn.; Miami Gardens, Fla.; Spring Hill, Tenn.; Flowery Branch, Ga.; Dallas, Texas; Lafayette, La.; Dickinson, Texas; Easton, Md.; Magnolia, Texas; Augusta, Maine; Manassas, Va.; Canton, Mich.; Virginia Beach, Va.; Apple Valley, Minn.; and Washington, D.C.
Target reported a .5% increase in same-store sales for February, while Wal-Mart posted a strong 2.6 % increase for U.S. same-store sales for February, excluding the sale of gasoline, beating its earlier predictions of a flat to 2% growth. Flat-panel TV, digital music and gaming helped boost sales.
