TCL Revives Palm Brand
In news that goes in the "who saw that one coming?" category, TV manufacturer has announced the acquisition revival of the Palm brand.
TCL, primarily known as a TV manufacturer, announced during CES that it "will create a new Palm Inc., a US-based company that will take ownership of the Palm brand. New Palm Inc. will remain a truly Californian, Silicon Valley, based company leveraging on the talents and partnerships of the area."
Palm was the company behind the Palm Pilot, and later was a pioneer in smartphones. But soon after it established the Palm Pre smartphone and webOS operating system, Palm was acquired by HP, which quickly abandoned its smartphone/tablet plans in 2011.
