Tempur-Pedic’s Eight Degrees of Coolness
Mattress brand Tempur-Pedic used the occasion of the Well Now! show in New York City last week to demo its new Tempur-Breeze mattress line, which will stay up to eight degrees cooler during a night’s sleep than a standard mattress. The company says that 10 years of R&D went into its design, producing an advanced cooling system that regulates heat and microclimates (i.e., the climates of very small or restricted areas), helping sleepers enjoy deeper, more restorative rest.
The company said the research resulting in the creation of this mattress showed that 60- percent of Americans struggle with sleeping cooler through the entire night.
In answering this unmet need, Tempur-Pedic devised a multi-layer, thermodynamic solution for all-night cooling and pressure relief that addresses temperature and humidity flux during three phases of sleep: lying down, falling asleep and staying cool through the night.
In the first phase, its SmartClimate Dual Cover system delivers a cooling sensation. Next, the mattress’ Phase Change material activates, morphing from solid to liquid to absorb heat. Then, the Tempur-Pedic CM+ comfort layer kicks in, channeling heat and humidity away from the sleeper. The technology is also in some models of the company’s pillows.
The Queen size model that was on display carries a suggested retail price of $4,499.
