Ten Millionth Xbox 360 Sold
The ten millionth Microsoft Xbox 360 console in the U.S. was sold this week, Reuters reported, making the 360 the first of its generation of consoles to reach that milestone.
The 360 was released in late 2005, nearly a year before Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii. The Wii, according to Reuters figures, is rapidly closing in on the 360, having sold 8.8 million units through the end of March.
“History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle,” Microsoft executive Don Mattrick said in a statement announcing the milestone. “We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry.”
