Thanks mostly to a new strategy that has put its product in more stores, as well as lower costs, Dell once again reported double-digit growth in global shipments in the fourth quarter, Reuters reported, citing research firm IDC.
The gains helped Dell narrow the gap with HP, which overtook it two years ago as the leader in PC shipments.
Dell sold 11.3 million units in the quarter, for a 17 percent jump, and Dell now controls just under 15 percent of global market share. HP sales grew as well, but slower than that of Dell; HP continues to lead with 19 percent of global market share. Acer, which acquired Gateway last year, came in third with 9.6 percent.
