RIM Profit Rises on Record BlackBerry Sales
There may have been a mass email outage on BlackBerry smartphones last week, but there was much better news for parent company Research in Motion (RIM) the following day. The BlackBerry maker reported a 59 percent increase in income in the third quarter, according to the AP.
The company set a record by selling 10 million devices in the quarter, and 80 percent of its new subscribers were non-corporate users, a number that was around 50 percent two years ago.
RIM's stock rose following the announcement Friday.
