CEA Starts Metadata Group
The Consumer Electronics Association said this week that it has launched a new Metadata Study Group, and is seeking participants for it.
CEA defines "metadata" as "structured data that describes the characteristics of a digital file, a digital stream or other resource," such as title and album information that is included in iTunes.
“CEA is always looking for new ways to use industry standards to grow the consumer electronics industry,” Brian Markwalter, CEA’s vice president of technology and standards, said as part of the announcement. “The Metadata Study Group was formed after a CEA Discovery Group identified metadata as an area that could benefit from improved industry standards.”
