In Letter, CEA's Shapiro Opposes DTV Move
After already making his position clear in comments both last week and at CES over the weekend, Consumer Electronics Association President/CEO Gary Shapiro Monday sent a formal letter to the chief of President-Elect Obama's transition team opposing any delay in the DTV transition.
In the letter, written to Obama transition co-chair John Podesta, Shapiro expressed concern that any move off of the scheduled Feb. 17 date would "confuse Americans while doing little to promote a successful transition to digital television."
“Government, industry and hundreds of consumer groups have cooperated and spent the last two years and hundreds of millions of dollars to make Americans aware of the transition,” Shapiro wrote. “With awareness now close to 100 percent, any change will be confusing and difficult to explain.”
