'The Dark Knight' Breaks Blu-ray Records
With the most eagerly-awaited title of the year, "The Dark Knight," arriving on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc this week, observers have been following how well the disc will do in the hi-def format.
So far, so good. Crunchgear.com reported that "The Dark Knight" is both the fastest-selling and best-selling Blu-ray disc in the history of the format, moving 600,000 copies in its first day, a number that bests the release of "Iron Man" earlier this fall, and 1.7 million in its first week. "Dark Knight"'s sales in Blu-ray were compared by Crunchgear to those of 2000's "Gladiator," the first film to sell huge numbers on DVD.
Meanwhile, according to the "Amazon Meter" at Amazon.com, 38 percent of sales of the movie on Amazon were in Blu-ray in the first week, as opposed to 62 percent in standard DVD.
