EReader And Kindle Start a New Story
The new line of electronic books from Sony and Amazon beg to be judged by their covers. In an attempt to help retailers position Sony's Reader on the sales floor and how the two compare, Dealerscope Lab engineers also judged them by what’s under the covers.
Sony’s new PRS-505 Reader is a device retailers might view as a niche item at first glance, but it has gained recognition among commuters and travelers who need or want to carry a variety of reading material with them without burdening their backs or brief cases. Retailers may be surprised to find out that these same consumers who originally bought the device for travel have integrated the Reader into their lifestyles and use it when they’re not on the road.
Whether on land, air or sea, users can access more than 20,000 titles on Sony’s CONNECT on-line eBook store via the Web. Books can be downloaded quickly to a PC by way of the included eBook library software and moved onto the Reader. When a Reader is registered on Sony’s CONNECT eBooks Store, customers will receive a credit good for the purchase of 100 available CONNECT Classics titles.
