Accessories: The Industry's Viagra
Dealerscope: Which accessories are on the verge of taking off?
Geise: We think home networking is one area where we see significant potential. Hybrid home networks that include power-line use for broadband transmissions, Wi-Fi for portability and low bandwidth, and also Z-Wave for home automation. In the fall we’ll be introducing a product we showed at CES, which will be wireless-HDMI-over-power-line, letting the consumer eliminate a number of cables that are running from their TV sets.
Chiarelli: The only one that has taken off and continues to blow through is Bluetooth. Anything to do with that is off the charts and will continue to be. California just enacted the new hands-free law, and so there was a huge spike over the previous five or six weeks in Bluetooth product sales that you didn’t see last year. It’s very event-driven. Bluetooth is a very good candidate for not really new, but rather continued, growth.
