Government Proposes EnergyGuide Label for TVs
The Federal Trade Commission Thursday proposed that the EnergyGuide label, currently required for some refrigerators and appliances, be required for televisions. The yellow-and-black labels state the estimated yearly cost of operating the appliance, as well as the estimated cost compared to other models.
The proposal follows a public comment period, and another will follow, continuing until May 14.
"Based on the comments received, the agency now proposes to require the labels on televisions sold in the United States to help consumers make better purchasing decisions," the FTC said as part of the announcement.
