The Fitbit Versa 2 Offers Five-Day Battery Life and Alexa Assistance
Fitbit has just announced the next generation of its best selling smartwatch, the Fitbit Versa 2 for $199.95. This time around, the wearable adds Amazon Alexa connectivity, intuitive sleep features, a better display, a faster processor, longer battery life, and a slew of other health, fitness, and smart features.
Fitbit’s first on-device microphone opens up a world of possibilities for users. Simply ask Alexa for Fitbit Exercises, directions to the nearest gym, caloric values of foods, upcoming weather forecasts, recent news and more by clicking the single side button. Fitbit’s Versa 2 can also transcribe voice messages into text messages for Android users. The smartwatch lacks a speaker though so Alexa will respond to inquiries with silent, on-screen text responses.
Another key component of the Versa 2 is its enhanced sleep features. Fitbit set out to better understand sleep habits over a decade ago, and is now applying that research from 10.5 billion nights of sleep to provide users with information on their unique sleep habits, and advice on how to improve them. The Versa 2 will provide a Sleep Score based on a person's heart rate (sleeping and resting), restlessness, time awake and Sleep Stages; the smart wake feature uses their REM cycle to determine the most appropriate wake time; sleep mode disables the display and notifications to avoid disturbances; and the Estimated Oxygen Variation Graph gives users an estimate of the variability of oxygen levels in their bloodstream
Launching in the fall, Fitbit will also offer a Premium subscription service for $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year to provide users with a more in-depth analysis of their health information. Following Fitbit Premium will be a health-coaching pilot that allows users to consult with trained health professionals for an additional fee.
“At Fitbit, we believe that health belongs to everyone and that people should not be priced out of having access to devices and features that can help them improve their health. That’s why we’ve designed Versa 2 to be a premium, full-featured and easy-to-use smartwatch at an accessible price point,” said James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit. “Building on the success of our original best-selling Versa smartwatch, we believe the added value and innovation in Versa 2 with new features like Alexa, a Spotify app and advanced in-app and on-device sleep features, will bring more users into the smartwatch category, allowing them to unlock the benefits of better health.”
The Fitbit Versa 2 will launch on Sept. 15, right on the heels of a Samsung smartwatch and likely, a new Apple Watch. Standard color options include black with a carbon case, petal with a copper rose aluminum case, and stone with a mist grey case. Versa 2 Special Edition is available for $229.95 in navy and pink with a copper rose aluminum case and smoke with a mist grey case. The Versa 2 is currently available for presale on Fitbit.com and will be available at retailers channels like Amazon, Best Buy, Kohl's, Macy's, Target, Verizon and Walmart at launch.
