CEDIA Roundtable: The Future of the Specialty CE and Integration Markets
Dealerscope: How have the video viewing habits of your customers changed, and how are those changes being addressed to generate sales, profits and new services?
Pedigo: That's a very interesting question. For so long, our members have sold high performance in video and audio. Over the last couple of years, with the rapid adoption of streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, consumers are not getting great quality. The big thing to consider is how our members can maximize the viewing quality and audio quality for cloud-based services, which is where a lot of clientele are going for their content streaming. Those trends have definitely changed viewing habits.
The iPad is viewed by some as being a threat and, even with your traditional touch-panel control systems, people are using them to stream video. But our members have said that it has increased, not decreased, their business. What's happening is we're seeing a rising tide in consumer awareness because of people wanting these things. But we also have to look at the other side, which is how it all affects high performance. For the foreseeable future, you won't be able to get the best-quality performance over a streaming service as compared to a medium like discs, or discs that have been copied onto a hard drive.
