Justice Starts Telecom Review
Following pressure last month from Senators, the Justice Department has launched a preliminary review into whether telecom providers are abusing their market powers, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Among possible areas for an inquiry are restrictions on the types of services other companies can offer on the telecom giants' networks and exclusivity deals between carriers and mobile phone manufacturers. The latter issue was the subject of a letter last month from U.S. Senators.
The paper added that the probe is preliminary, is not directed at any particular company, and may not necessarily evolve into a full investigation.
