The KUBE: Taking the Cooler Concept Up A Notch
The KUBE ($1,200), which made an appearance at the recent Luxury Technology Show, is much more than a combination storage bin/cooler that can accommodate 16 wine bottles at a high-toned pool party.
The aluminum and soft-coated ABS plastic cooler is IPX4 marine-certified and water-resistant, and is also Bluetooth- and Wi-Fi-compatible, providing wireless audio entertainment and delivering sound through a high-quality speaker complement consisting of a bipolar driver configuration and a 350-watt digital amplifier.
Its integrated Lithium-ion power system runs for up to 50 hours at medium volume and 10 hours at maximum volume. It includes one USB peripheral charging port (2.1A maximum), a 3.5mm audio input and an integrated DC charging port. The KUBE’saesthetic makes it a conversation-starter at any outdoor event.
It’s the first portable outdoor speaker offering from Thomas & Darden, an Austin, Texas-based company that is self-described as consisting of audiophiles who believe “sound should complement space, not compete with it.” Kanwal Sharma, CEO, said there are additional products in the works that will derive from this same philosophy.
