Ruling Goes Against Samsung
The latest U.S. International Trade Commission ruling concerning LCD patents was not a good one for Samsung Electronics.
According to Bloomberg News, the USITC ruled that Samsung was in violation of Sharp's patent rights- a ruling that could result in an import ban for Samsung LCD TVs. The ruling, which is subject to further arguments to be submitted by both companies, could affect the just under 20 percent of the U.S. market in LCD TVs held by Samsung.
Past rulings have gone against both Sharp and Vizio. Vizio and Samsung have been vying for the title of market leader in LCD TV shipments for the U.S.; Vizio's 20.5 percent bested Samsung's 19.9 percent in the most recent iSuppli rankings.
