"Just as PC products are taking on CE characteristics, CE products are taking on PC characteristics. Value-added retailers like MyerEmco need to learn how to play in both spaces, because that is what our customers will want us to do. They already want us to set up home networks for them. It's only a matter of time before virtually all CE products are addressable with some network protocol, most likely IP. The only danger for the industry is to attempt to exclude any one sector—PC or CE—as we continue to evolve our menu of options for the digital home. That will create a battleground that absolutely doesn't need to be there, and it will create confusion and fear in the marketplace, thus deferring the opportunity for all of us unnecessarily.
"The CE industry has an advantage in that it has an added value channel of specialty audio/video retailers. We evangelize for new technologies, we explain them to our customers, and they trust us to make them work in their homes, and with their legacy CE devices. I would remind both the CE and PC manufacturers that we are ready, willing and able to help make the most of the digital home opportunity for players in either space." -Joe Paone
