Netbooks Gain Share
The mini-note, or netbook category now makes up 22 percent of the portable PC shipments, albeit only 11.7 percent of revenues, due to their lower price. That's according to a study released Wednesday by research firm DisplaySearch.
The Quarterly Advanced Notebook PC Shipment and Forecast Report found that the total value of the notebook market has dropped 5 percent from this time last year, while increasing 10 percent from last quarter.
"Mini-notes have been a significant contributor to volume growth in the portable PC market as their very attractive price points make owning a secondary computer viable for many consumers. However, the lower ASPs of these devices are clearly having a negative impact on portable PC market revenue,” John F. Jacobs, Director of Notebook Market Research for DisplaySearch, said as part of the announcement.
