Shopping Up But Spending Down on Black Friday
On Black Friday, more than 20 million more customers shopped than they did last year- but the average shopper spent less. That's according to figures released Monday by the National Retail Federation.
The group, citing figures from BIGresearch, found that 195 million Americans either shopped online or in-store Friday, up from 171 million in 2008. However, customers spent $343.31 on average, down about $30 from last year's figure.
Customers spent $41.2 billion in total, NRF said. The survey also found that 29 percent of Black Friday shoppers visited electronics stores.
