On average it takes a consumer 2.0 hours to find help to solve a technology problem, almost 3.0 hours to set up a wireless network, more than 1.5 hours to install security software and a whopping 3.5 hours to transfer files to a new PC (Chart 7), according to a 2007 HiWired survey provided by Parks.
Many retailers continue to add those services, but they have to do a better job promoting them. The ball is in the retailers’ courts, since consumers are looking for and willing to pay for the services of a trusted technology advisor.
