Walmart-Exclusive Rock Album Hits #1
In a music retail milestone, "Black Ice," the new album by venerable Australian rockers AC/DC, has debuted at #1 on the U.S. music charts. The album is sold exclusively at Walmart, Sam's Club, and their respective Web sites, and moved 780,000 copies in its first week, Walmart said.
The hit album represents the first-ever #1 debut for the band, which formed in 1973.
The success of "Black Ice" is part of a massive sales effort by the discount retail giant, which has placed "AC/DC Rock Again Store" sections in its stores that also sell DVDs, apparel, and other AC/DC merchandise. Those items will soon be joined by "AC/DC LIVE: Rock Band Track Pack," a video game set for release Nov. 2 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and Nov. 16 on Nintendo Wii.
