Legum explains that since accessories are a huge part of the wireless industry, they're also integral to sales, including headsets, ear buds, cases, chargers and vehicle mounts, which are not to be ignored, as they create a solid profit in a market heavily impacted by rebates and service agreements.
"The value of these add-ons can increase wireless retailers' commissions in extraordinary ways. A $29 headset can add $10 to $15 in gross profit, but this may account for a 10 percent or more increase in the realized commissions on each sale. That's significant enough to demand a serious effort, and it's just as applicable to cam phones as anything else," he says.
Legum says up until now, "Imaging services have traditionally been the domain of camera stores. Wireless retailers may want to investigate offering these services either by investing in the equipment and inventory necessary to provide these services, or alternatively they might want to partner with a service provider and enter into a profit sharing agreement."
