The Price is Fight
Certainly, I don't think it's right to pin the outlandish behavior of a foolish few on these retailers. I do, however, have to pose the question: Are they helping? Is it right to create an environment that pits consumer against consumer and then act surprised when things get ugly? Isn't it akin to screaming "fire!" in a crowded building? Is the money worth the loss of our humanity?
We live in a very material culture. With all the benefits that brings, there can also be a nasty undercurrent. It's up to all parties involved—retailer and consumer alike—to hold each other up to a higher standard. Otherwise, we're all liable to get trampled.
