Breaking the Comfort Zone
Be an expert on your experts. Do you have a designated trainer on staff; somebody who regularly takes on the responsibility of coaching and developing employees? Is it you or somebody else? Consider this: Is he or she truly the right person for each and every skill that needs to be trained? It’s vital for you to be able to identify the individuals in your organization who are the true experts in any given area and then enable them to have the opportunity to share their knowledge with the rest of the team. More often than not, the best person to share his or her knowledge is somebody who recently completed the same training. If you happen to have a designated trainer on staff, allow them the opportunity to delegate the facilitation of a skills practice program to another employee upon whom you mutually agree (and is willing to share their knowledge). This will achieve several positive outcomes:
•It will provide the trainer with valuable coaching experience.
•It allows the chosen individual to feel valued as a subject matter expert.
