Instead of racing for the bottom--or for the Beats fashion market--a growing roster of earphones and headphones is reaching for stratospheric quality and price points. It’s a strategy that could help retailers and brands separate themselves from the narrow-margin lower and middle markets.
Leading the pack in the $1,000 club are new earbuds, such as Sennheiser’s IE 800’s.
“Our high-end business is really rocking,” said Daniel Sennheiser, who along with his brother Andreas leads the company as co-CEO. “People are looking for real value and substance.”
