Thousands of Cell Phones Stolen From Distribution Warehouse
Thieves breaking into a Florida cell phone warehouse came away with a haul of nearly 8,000 cell phones - with a combined retail value of $1.5 million- on Sunday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel newspaper reported. The burglars remain at large, and a $50,000 award (through Broward County Crimestoppers) has been posted for information leading to their arrest.
The warehouse, Reagan Wireless in Deerfield Beach, Fla., distributes phones throughout the U.S. and Latin America. According to police who spoke with the newspaper, the thieves entered the 58,000 square-foot building by cutting a large hole in the back wall, and even used the company’s own forklift to haul the merchandise off the shelves.
Among the phones stolen were around 1,000 Samsung ACE handsets left over from the ill-fated ESPN Mobile venture that was discontinued last year.
