Things Looking Up For HD Radio
After a slow start, iBiquity’s HD Radio technology is finally beginning to catch on, thanks to falling unit prices, deals with car manufacturers and new tagging features, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The Journal added that the success of the medium is important for radio broadcasters, who face bitter competition for viewers from various media, including new in-car multimedia systems as well as satellite radio. The format has struggled since it was introduced, but in past few months Ford Motor Co. and other manufacturers have agreed to support it, and HD Radio supporters had a major presence at CES in Las Vegas this week.
