Thomson Drops Out of North American Retail Phone Business
Thomson announced on Nov. 5th its decision to exit its retail telephony activities in North America, effective immediately.
A statement issued jointly by the company in Paris and Indianapolis said: “This decision reflects CEO Frederic Rose’s commitment to exit businesses that are unlikely to contribute to improving Thomson’s profitability in the short to medium term.”
Primarily affected is Thomson’s line of GE DECT- 6.0 phones, sold here under the GE brand.
The statement further said that “Thomson’s related European and remaining Asian activities are the subject of continuing review” and that the company “will continue to pursue its business focusing on set-top boxes and multiple play gateways (including embedded telephony.”
