Thursday in CE: GoPro Hero is a No-Frills, Entry-Level Solution for Struggling Brand
Not ready to go out without a fight, GoPro Hero is a no-frills action camera ready to court the entry-level consumer with a $199 price tag. But don't be confused by its intentions, the Hero is the same design as the company's flagship Hero5 and Hero6 cameras. It sports the same 2-inch touchscreen and a waterproof, nearly indestructible housing that doesn't use polycarbonates.
And apparently, the touch-screen is the key factor in making this a success.
"Our research and feedback shows consumers really like having a touchscreen, so we wanted to give people that familiar experience at an entry-level price and Hero satisfies both," a GoPro spokeswoman told CNet. Being waterproof to 30 feet (10 meters) without a housing is also a huge selling point for GoPro's cameras, she said.
