TiVo To Debut Discounted Recorder
TiVo announced Tuesday that it will release a simpler, much less expensive version of its high-definition recording model, less than a year after the company’s first foray into HD was less than a stellar success. The new product will go for $299, Reuters reported.
Facing stiff competition from cable providers offering digital recording services for a low cost per month, TiVo will offer such special features as ability to record two high-def shows while watching a third, downloads of movies and TV shows through a special deal with Amazon, and the “Universal Swivel” search function.
Tivo’s original HD recording device, the Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder, was released last year but did not meet expectations, mostly due to its $800 price tag. The new recorder offers less recording capacity (20 rather than 30 hours of HD) for the lower price.
