TiVo announced Tuesday the launch of the TiVo Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder. This is the first TiVo DVR to record in high def and the first THX-certified DVR overall. The box comes with a dual tuner for simultaneous recording of up to two broadcasts and an OLED display to show what is recording even with the TV switched off. It can hold 32 hours of HD recording and 300 hours of standard definition programming. As a finishing touch, TiVo has upgraded the remote as well, adding a new, backlit design. The Series3 will support over-the-air digital HD (ATSC) and will soon work with TiVoCast for users who want to download content through their broadband connection. The box drops in mid-September for $799.99.
