Toshiba has unveiled the first glasses-free 3D LCD TV from a major manufacturer. According to the AP, the TV is for "personal use," and requires that the user sit near the screen.
The new TV was shown in Tokyo Monday, with release coming to Japan later this year; North American availability has not yet been announced. It will be available in 12- and 20-inch sizes.
The technology was made possible by a "perpendicular lenticular sheet," consisting of many small lenses. Nintendo's upcoming 3DS portable gaming console uses similar technology.
