Toshiba Launches ‘Highest Def’ Billboard in Times Square
Toshiba Tuesday night relaunched its Toshiba Vision 51-foot-square LED-powered electronic display in New York’s Times Square, touting it as the “highest-definition billboard” in this densely populated area at the heart of Manhattan’s midtown.
Toshiba’s sign will occupy a prime position on the One Times Square building that is the base for the New Year’s Eve crystal ball drop, an event broadcast worldwide, and will be used for the countdown to the new year. It will also serve as a high-profile instrument of brand promotion, according to Maria Repole, assistant vice president of corporate communications, carrying rotating product information about Toshiba’s Regza LCD TVs and its Qosmic notebook computer line.
“The goal of this sign,” said newly named Toshiba America Inc. CEO Masa Fukakushi, “ is to send Toshiba product information and company activity information to the world. The sign’s LED technology has been engineered and manufactured by Toshiba, and it demonstrates our leadership in LED and our 130 years of leading technological innovation.”
