Toshiba Unveils Wealth of DVD Products
Toshiba, long a leader in TV/VCR and TV/DVD combo products, maintains a line of six CRT TV/DVD sets (three with flat screens) and three flat-screen "Tri-Play" (TV/DVD/VCR) models, as well as two additional flat-screen Tri-Plays with progressive scan DVD players. Two TV/VCR products remain in the 2004 line.
The newest twist in Toshiba's combo line, however, is the arrival of two new TV/progressive scan DVD models based on LCD flat-panel TVs. The SD-P7000 ($999.99, August) is a 17-inch widescreen, 1280 x 768 HD monitor; the SD-P4000 ($599.99, June) is a 14-inch 4:3 with 640 x 480 resolution. The DVD players are slot-loading. A third LCD/DVD model, announced at CES, is the SD-P5000, a 15-inch 4:3 with 1024 x 768 resolution; it's due in August for $799.99.
Toshiba unveiled an innovative new portable DVD player with impressive viewing-angle flexibility. The progressive scan SD-P2700 ($499, September) is an 8.9-inch, 1024 x 600 widescreen LCD with a 180-degree swivel-and-flip screen and SD/MMC card slots. Continuing in the line is the SD-P1400 ($299), a seven-inch widescreen model.
