Toy Industry Association
Toy Industry Association, Inc. (TIA), founded in 1916, is the national New York City-based trade association for U.S. producers and importers of toys, games and children’s entertainment products. Its 400-plus members account for 85 percent of industry sales. Associate members include toy testing laboratories, design firms and professional inventors. Government, the trade, the media and consumers all recognize TIA as the authoritative voice of the U.S. toy industry.
Together with the U.S. government, TIA has led the world in the development of toy safety standards, including the creation in 1971 of a comprehensive voluntary safety standard for toys, which is now known as ASTM F963. TIA’s history also includes more than six decades of accomplishments in this area through affiliations with the National Safety Council (NSC), the National Bureau of Standards (NBS), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the International Standardization Organization (ISO).
TIA also works with consumer organizations, such as the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO) and, most recently, the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, to communicate the importance of safe play throughout the U.S. and around the world.
