TrekStor Hopes for Good vibez in U.S.
TrekStor GmbH launched the TrekStor vibez on Monday, heralding their first venture into the U.S. hard disk MP3 player market. After conquering the German PMP market, TrekStor hopes to make ground with this slim-line model that comes in 8, 12 or 15GB sizes and features a 1.5-inch TFT screen.
Unlike the untouchable battery of an iPod, the vibez power source is easy to access via a detachable rear cover. The rechargeable lithium ion battery within runs for 20 hours at a stretch. Replacement batteries are available for $29.99.
TrekStor also hopes to gain an edge with their 1-inch harddrive, almost half the thickness of the more typical 1.8-inch hard drive found in many MP3 players. This is how the player makes room for the optional FM tuner card, which will be available soon. Come early 2007 an FM/video card for video playback will also be available.
