TV Shipment Growth Seen for 2012
After a year of nearly no TV shipment growth, the sector is seen growing 2 percent globally in 2012, according to a forecast issued Tuesday by NPD DisplaySearch.
The research firm predicted a 2 percent rise in TV shipments this year, compared with only 0.1 percent growth in 2011. LCD will remain the top technology, with 40-inch and higher TVs driving most growth and LED's share reaching two thirds this year.
“Global economic conditions have improved in 2011, but more slowly than expected, and consumers in mature TV markets like Europe face continuing uncertainty, which is leading to very cautious spending patterns,” Paul Gagnon, Director of North America TV Research for NPD DisplaySearch, said as part of the announcement.
