TVs, Blu-ray Players Seen Becoming Top Connected Devices
Both connected TVs and Blu-ray players will overtake consoles to become the top in-home connected devices by 2017. That's according to numbers released last week by ABI Research.
The survey, which concerns both North America and Western Europe, found that connected TVs will be in 50 percent of homes within five years, compared with just over 10 percent last year.
“Most CE manufacturers (notably, Samsung and LG) use a common platform for Connected TVs and Blu-ray players. Microsoft and Nintendo play only in the game console market, while Smart STB leaders Apple and Roku don’t compete in the other connected categories," ABI senior analyst Michael Inouye said as part of the announcement.
