Less and More
LG took the wraps of its INFINIA flagship series of LED sets, including the LE9500, LE8500 and LE7500 series. They all combine a slim design and thin bezel with enhanced connectivity and additional content options. The 55- and 47-inch class LE9500 sets will be LG's first 3D-ready models. The series incorporates two new LED features: Full LED Slim (LE9500 and LE8500 series) backlight technology and local dimming to 240 addressable segments, and LED Plus, which adds local dimming to 16 addressable segments in the edge-lit sets. The new sets, including plasmas (the new thinner and feature rich Infinia PK950 and PK750), are also among the industry's first to carry the THX certification. The company also added Skype to its content offerings.
Panasonic is slated to introduce Full HD 3D VIERA plasma sets in a V series that includes 65-, 58-, 54- and 50-inch screen sizes. The V series will feature VIERACast Wi-Fi capability and Skype.
Bob Perry, Panasonic Consumer Electronics' senior vice president, said the company would spend more than twice as much as in 2008 to drive consumer awareness of Panasonic products' ease of use, high performance and value.
