The Ultra High Definition Alliance (UHDA) announced they’ve expanded the range of products that can bear the ULTRA HD PREMIUM logo to include Ultra HD Blu-ray Players. UHDA, the group charged with “fostering the Ultra HD ecosystem and promoting the benefits” of the technology, certifies products that fall under the Ultra HD category, including televisions and content, enabling those companies to place the ULTRA HD PREMIUM logo on packaging and in other branding and promotional materials.
That logo, which was unveiled at CES 2016 earlier this year, helps consumers identify televisions, content, content services, and now playback devices that are capable of delivering a premium experience to an Ultra HD market that is exploding right now, UHDA said. That market is expected to grow eightfold by 2019.
UHDA developed the specifications in collaboration with leading film studios, consumer electronics manufacturers, content distributors, and technology companies, and they said they reflect “collective expertise from across the Ultra HD ecosystem.” They also used input from experiential consumer testing.
