UNBOXED: Reviewing Bio-key SideSwipe
I like to be very minimalistic. Everything I own falls into the category of multi-functional or highly efficient and is always aesthetically pleasing. This keeps gadgets I own to a minimum while creating an ecosystem of the frictionless workflow.
Moving past my admittedly lofty language, welcoming Bio-key into my ecosystem has been one of the easiest choices I have ever made. I've been using the SideSwipe for about five months now, and I've never felt slicker unlocking my computer. Somehow, Bio-key has made me brag about opening my computer to anyone who will listen - a list that has gotten considerably less tolerant of my exaggerated swipes to unlock my computer.
Bio-key offers their fingerprint ID in two different styles, swipe or touch, both reading your fingerprint to unlock. The biggest difference is whether or not you need a 3' cable to access an out-of-sight desktop or if the plug-in dongle will suit your needs. A removable plastic bracket helps secure it to any device. Bio-key also offers a model with an impressive IP-65 rating that will "deliver consistent performance in indoor, outdoor and other harsh environments," that will run you a little bit more than the $40 asking price of their other products.
